York Revolution News Release
(York, Pa): York Revolution coaches Tippy Martinez and Ryan Minor will return as part of the coaching staff for the 2008 season. Martinez will serve as the pitching coach, while Minor will serve as the team's infield/hitting coach for the second year in a row.
"Going into year two with the knowledge Chris, Tippy and Ryan bring to the table will ultimately benefit this club for the upcoming season," said York Revolution Head of Baseball Operations Adam Gladstone.
Martinez and Minor will once again join Manager Chris Hoiles as part of the coaching staff for 2008. Hoiles signed his contract in September to lead the York Revolution in their second season of play.
"I am excited about the opportunity to work with Ryan and Tippy again with a year under our belts. They each bring excellent qualities to this club," said York Revolution Manager Chris Hoiles.
Martinez, a former left-handed relief pitcher with the Baltimore Orioles, spent ten seasons with the O's (1976-1986) - playing in the 1979 and 1983 World Series. As pitching coach during the Revs inaugural season, his dedication to the team proved to be a success. Six Revolution pitchers had their contracts purchased by Major League organizations in 2007. York led the Atlantic League with eight players sent to Major League teams. Revs RHP Frank Castillo's 3.75 ERA was the second-best among active pitchers in the Atlantic League at the season's end.
Minor played three seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, and is well known for replacing Cal Ripken, Jr. at third base the night that Cal ended his consecutive games played streak in 1998. Minor's leadership in 2007 proved outstanding as Nate Espy was tied as Utility Player of the Year by the Atlantic League. Espy led York with a .316 batting average in 2007, and was ranked 8th in the league.
"I am very excited to return to the community that was so nice to me and my family. I can't wait to get back on the field with Chris and Tippy again," said York Revolution infield/hitting coach Ryan Minor.
The team will continue to explore options for Al Bumbry.
