COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps managed only five base hits, while the Fort Wayne TinCaps came alive on offense in an 8-0 shutout loss in front of 7,474 fans Friday night at LMCU Ballpark.
The Whitecaps were stifled by Fort Wayne pitching throughout the contest, as TinCaps pitchers Austin Krob and Carter Loewen combined for ten strikeouts. Meanwhile, the TinCaps added three home runs in the shutout victory.
The TinCaps jumped on the lead in the second inning as Graham Pauley and Carlos Luis added back-to-back solo homers to take the 2-0 lead. Fort Wayne extended their lead in the third inning as Nathan Martorella collected a two-run home run before Luis added an RBI single, extending the advantage to 5-0. Meanwhile, Krob dominated on the mound, posting seven scoreless innings with eight punchouts as Fort Wayne added three runs in the fifth - highlighted by a two-run single from Anthony Vilar - extending their lead to 8-0. The Whitecaps managed just two hits past the fifth inning as Loewen slammed the door with two scoreless frames to earn the 8-0 shutout victory.
The Whitecaps record falls to 44-49 overall and 12-16 in the second half, while the TinCaps jump to 49-45 and 17-11 in the second half.
