Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - In front of 4,091 fans at Parkview Field on a 74-degree Sunday afternoon, the TinCaps overcame a late five-run deficit and beat the Lake County Captains (Guardians affiliate), 8-7. Fort Wayne won three in a row over the weekend to take the five-game series.

Third baseman Devin Ortiz hit a two-run single to center field that brought in two runs in the bottom of the eighth to put Fort Wayne (4-4) on top for the first time in the game.

The TinCaps trailed 7-2 with two outs in the home seventh. Then left fielder Kai Murphy hit a two-run double and right fielder Tyler Robertson followed with a two-run home run to left.

Lake County (4-4) raced out to a 5-0 lead with three in the first and a pair in the second. The TinCaps chipped into the deficit in the third as shortstop Nik McClaughry knocked an RBI triple and Murphy plated him with a groundout.

But the Captains built their lead back up with a run in the fourth and another in the seventh.

Ortiz had a team-high three hits, while Robertson finished with two.

Manuel Castro threw a scoreless eighth and ninth to earn the win.

In similar fashion, Fort Wayne overcame a late multi-run deficit on Saturday afternoon as well before eventually walking off on a Robertson hit.
