
Timbers2 Close out 2023 Season with 2-1 Victory over Real Monarchs

PORTLAND, Ore. - Timbers2 finished their 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season with a 2-1 victory over Real Monarchs on Sunday afternoon. Florian Monzón opened the scoring for Portland eight minutes into the match followed by a goal from Josh Penn two minutes later to give Portland the lead that sealed the win.
2023 Season Recap
After today's final match, Timbers2 sits in 10th place of the Western Conference standings. Eliminated from the MLS NEXT Pro playoffs, Portland finished the season recording a season-best 11 victories, eight of them being at home, which is tied for the fourth most in the Western Conference. Twelve different players scored at least one goal for T2 through 28 matches played in the 2023 campaign. Monzón finished the season with a team-leading 10 goals and 22 points, while Keesean Ferdinand led the team in assists with three.

POR - Florián Monzón, 8th minute: Standing in the 18-yard box, Josh Penn controlled the ball down with his chest and fired a left-footed ball on target, forcing a save on the Real Monarchs goalkeeper. Florian Monzón was there to finish the play on the rebound.
POR - Josh Penn (Justin Rasmussen), 10th minute: Justin Rasmussen received a long ball on the right side of the field, dribbled forward and sent a cross into the top of the six-yard box. Joshua Penn connected with his left-foot, sliding the ball into the right-corner of the goal.
SLC - Gershon Henry (Daron Iskenderian), 11th minute: Daron Iskenderian pounced on a deflected ball in the box and passed it to Gershon Henry, who on his first touch fired a left-footed ball into the goal.
