Timbers finish road trip with Cascadia Cup match at Vancouver

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers (4-2-3, 15pts) wrap up their four-game road trip north of the border, where they'll do battle with the rival Vancouver Whitecaps (4-1-2, 14pts) on Friday, June 10 at 7 p.m.

TIMBERS AT VANCOUVER - FRIDAY, JUNE 10 - 7 p.m. (Pacific)

Off all the teams the Timbers faced last season, Portland had the toughest time with the Whitecaps, posting a 1-3 record against Vancouver ... the Timbers are 1-7-1 in regular-season play at Swangard Stadium, with the lone win coming on May 23, 2004 ... the Whitecaps, who dropped their last match 1-0 at Minnesota on May 29, are ending a 12-day break in action Friday ... the Timbers, meanwhile, will play their fourth game in eight days ... Vancouver striker Jason Jordan shares the league lead in goals scored with eight ... goalkeeper Mike Franks has allowed just two goals in six matches while shutting out opponents four times ... the Whitecaps have outscored their opponents 12-2 at home this season and carry a 4-0-1 record at Swangard entering Friday's contest.

HOMEWARD BOUND

After playing four matches on the road and taking an 18-day break from their home pitch, the Timbers will return to PGE Park for four consecutive home matches, beginning Thursday, June 16 vs. Puerto Rico. Portland will host the Rochester Raging Rhinos two days later on Saturday, June 18, followed by a game against the defending-champion Montreal Impact on Thursday, June 30. Rounding out the home stretch is a Cascadia Cup match with Vancouver on Saturday, July 2. All games begin at 7 p.m. (Pacific).

GOAL HUNGRY

The Timbers have scored only one goal that did not owe itself to a penalty kick in their last four games and were shut out for the first time all season Monday at Puerto Rico. Both goals on the current road trip have come on penalty kicks.

LINES OUT

Midfielder Aaran Lines suffered a left-shoulder strain Monday at Puerto Rico and will not be available for Friday's match at Vancouver.

CASCADIA CUP-DATE

The Cascadia Cup is an in-season competition between Northwest rivals Portland, Seattle and Vancouver to determine the top team in Pacific Northwest soccer. The Timbers, who defeated Seattle 2-1 on April 30, lead the derby with six points thus far. Vancouver and Seattle tied their only meeting, 0-0.
