June 9, 2005 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Rochester Rhinos News Release
(Rochester, NY)...Rochester Raging Rhinos Vice President and General Manager Chris Economides announced that the team has signed forward Greg Howes.
Howes, the 6-0, 185-pound native of Tacoma, Washington, has been one of the USL's most dynamic finishers over the past five seasons. A three-time USL All A-League Second Team member (2000, 2003 and 2004), Howes has collected 136 points (49+38) in only 119 matches. Last season, Howes picked up 26 points in 28 games with the Milwaukee Wave United. In his A-League career, he has spent time with the Seattle Sounders (2000), Portland Timbers (2001-2002) and the Milwaukee Wave United (2003-2004). During the 2000 season, Howes was named the A-League Rookie of the Year. That season, he scored 17 goals and added seven assists.
Howes has also turned heads in the indoor game as well. As a member of the Milwaukee Wave, Howes won his second consecutive Most Valuable Player award in the Major Indoor Soccer League on May 12th. Howes also won his second-straight MISL Spaulding Scoring Championship by collecting 73 points (41+32). The Wave defeated the Cleveland Force to win the 2005 MISL Championship in May.
Before joining the professional ranks, Howes played two seasons at Oregon State from 1998-1999. At the time, Howes graduated from OSU ranked ninth on the school's all-time points list and third on the all-time assist list. Howes was also a member of the 2004 U.S National Futsal Team that participated in the FIFA Futsal World Championships in Chinese Taipei.
"We are very excited to have Greg join our club," Rhinos Head Coach Laurie Calloway said. "Greg has a proven track record of scoring goals and hopefully he can continue that success with our club."
The Rhinos will hit the field tomorrow night to face the Toronto Lynx at Frontier Field. The 7:35 p.m. kickoff will be broadcast on Fickle 93.3 FM and webcast at www.rhinossoccer.com.
