
Tim Mattison joins Kernels; Espinoza assigned to Tempe

Kernels pitcher Gustavo Espinoza will be reassigned to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's extended spring training facility in Tempe, AZ due to an unspeci.ed arm injury, effective Friday, April 7th.
Taking Espinoza's place on the roster is RHP Tim Mattison. Mattison will join the Kernels in Beloit and will be active on the Kernels roster when they take on the Snappers tonight at 6:30 pm.
Mattison (23) appeared in 20 games for the Orem Owlz in 2005, all of them in relief. In 17-2/3 innings, Tim posted a 1-2 record with an 8.66 ERA.
Espinoza had yet to appear in a game for the Kernels in 2006, however, he pitched brie.y during an exhibition game against Kirkwood CC last Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 players.
Cedar Rapids continues a four game series in Beloit thru Sunday. The Kernels kick off the 2006 home season with a noon start against the Peoria Chiefs on Monday April 10th.
