Tigers Win Final Contest at Brooklyn

Brooklyn, NY - Corey Joyce went 2-for-4 with two RBI and the Connecticut Tigers (26-28) defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones (30-23) by a final score of 5-2. Joyce is now third on the team in RBI with 15.

Brooklyn took the lead in the first inning with a solo home run from Kennie Taylor off of Carson Lance (Win, 3-3).

Lance went five innings with two runs on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

The Tigers tied it in the third inning on a RBI sacrifice fly from Eric De La Rosa. In the fourth, Kona Quiggle delivered a solo home run over the right-field wall off of Frank Valentino (Loss, 1-3) to make it 2-1. The 16th-round pick is now tied for the lead in home runs for the Tigers this year.

Jose Mena tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth with an RBI single to left field for Brooklyn. This was the final run the Cyclones scored in the game.

The Tigers added the only multi-run inning of the contest in the sixth. After a Joyce RBI single, Avery Tuck brought home

Nick Quintana to make it 4-2. Quintana finished the night 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Joyce delivered his second RBI in the eighth inning to make it 5-2 over Brooklyn. The Tigers pitching staff pitched four scoreless innings to close out the contest.

Kyle Thomas (Hold, 7) pitched three innings with a hit and a strikeout in the game. Yaya Chentouf (Save, 4) pitched the final frame with no hits and one strikeout. Chentouf now leads the Tigers in saves this season. This is the second straight season he has done it.

The Connecticut Tigers will be back in action tomorrow in the first game of a six-game home stand against the Tri-City ValleyCats.
