Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Lakeland, FL) - The Vero Beach Dodgers lost two separate leads en route to a 6-5 defeat at Lakeland Tuesday night. Carlos Santana drove in two runs for his third straight multi-RBI game in a losing effort for the Dodgers. The series continues Wednesday night at 7:00 PM.

The Dodgers took advantage of a slow start from Tigers' left-hander Lance Davis. He surrendered three straight singles before recording an out, then walked Carlos Santana and Cory Dunlap to force in two runs. Travis Denker added a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 after one inning.

The Tigers answered with a solo home run from Wilkin Ramirez in the second inning, then tied to the score in the third on a 2-out, 2-RBI sinlge from Jeff Frazier.

Vero Beach went back on top the next inning when Denker led off with a double and scored on a grounder from Gabriel Gutierrez. The Dodgers went ahead 5-3 in the 5th when Santana singled home Cole Bruce after a 2-out double.

Once again, however, the Tigers were able to answer. Frazier's sacrifice fly make it 5-4 and Jeff Larish followed with a bloop double down the line in right that put Lakeland on top by the final score of 6-5.

Julio Pimentel made his second impressive relief appearance. He tossed three scoreless innings, allowing just one single and no walks while striking out four. Lakeland's Jeremy Johnson was equally tough. He pitched the final four frames for his first save of the year.

Defensively for Vero Beach, catcher Gabriel Gutierrez threw out both potential basestealers Tuesday night. He leads the Florida State League by throwing out 61.1% of those attempting to steal against him.
