Tiger-Cats Sign Seven 2018 CFL Draft Selections

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Sunday the football club has signed seven of its 2018 Canadian Football League Draft selections to three-year contracts, including defensive backs Jackson Bennett and Nicholas Parisotto, defensive linemen Brett Wade and Joel Van Pelt, wide receivers Marcus Davis and Justin Buren and linebacker Mike Moore.

Bennett, 22, was selected in the second round, 11th overall. He played 23 regular season games for the University of Ottawa from 2014 to 2017, registering 128 tackles and one sack. This past season, the 5-10, 212-pound defensive back represented the East team in the U Sports East-West Bowl. Also in 2017, Bennett was named Ontario University Athletics' Stand-Up Defensive Player of the Year and a U Sports Second-Team All-Canadian. As a linebacker, Bennett was named an OUA First-Team All-Star in 2017 and Second-Team All-Star in 2016. As a return specialist, he was also named an OUA Second-Team All-Star in 2017.

Wade, 24, was selected in the second round, 15th overall. The 6-1, 270-pound defensive lineman played 40 regular season games for the University of Calgary from 2013 to 2017, recording 74 tackles and 6.5 sacks over his five seasons with the Dinos. In 2017, the Regina, Saskatchewan native was named a U Sports Second-Team All-Canadian and a Canada West All-Star. Wade was part of the Dinos teams that won the Mitchell Bowl in 2016 as well as the Hardy Cup in 2016 and 2017.

Davis, 21, was selected in the fourth round, 31st overall. He played 30 games for the University of British Columbia from 2014 to 2017. The 5-10, 185-pound wide receiver from Victoria, British Columbia registered 103 receptions for 1,316 yards and 10 touchdowns over his four years with the Thunderbirds.

Buren, 22, was selected in the fifth round, 37th overall. He played 34 games with Simon Fraser University from 2014 to 2017. The 5-11, 195-pound native of Coquitlam, British Columbia caught 145 passes for 2,012 yards and nine touchdowns, and also rushed 10 times for 66 yards and one touchdown over four seasons with the Clan.

Moore, 22, was selected in the sixth round, 44th overall. He appeared in 32 games at Queen's University from 2014 to 2017, collecting 186.5 total tackles, five quarterback sacks, 11 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. The 6-0, 221-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario, added two interceptions and two pass break ups in his collegiate career with the Gaels.

Van Pelt, 21, was picked in the eighth round, 62nd overall. He appeared in 27 games at the University of Calgary from 2014 to 2017, accumulating 55 total tackles, including 10 tackles for loss. The 6-4, 260-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, posted career-highs in 2017 with the Dinos in total tackles (26), tackles for loss (7.5) and quarterback sacks (4). Van Pelt was also part of the Dinos teams that won the Mitchell Bowl in 2016 as well as the Hardy Cup in 2016 and 2017.

Parisotto, 22, was selected in the eighth round, 66th overall. He played 30 games for the University of Guelph from 2014 to 2017. The 5-10, 199-pound Guelph, Ontario native registered 114 tackles and nine interceptions over his four seasons with the Gryphons.
