
Tierney and Westervelt Receive League Honors

Denver-June 11, 2007 -Major League Lacrosse announced Monday its weekly award winners for the week ending June 10, 2007, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. Rochester Rattlers attackman Casey Powell was named as the league's Offensive Player of the Week while San Francisco Dragons defenseman Eric Martin earned the Defensive Player of the Week award.
In addition, a pair of Denver Outlaws earned weekly honors as goalkeeper Trevor Tierney was named as the Goalkeeper of the Week and rookie attackman Drew Westervelt received the Cascade Rookie of the Week award.
Tierney recorded a season-high 27 saves in the Outlaws' 18-15 win over Los Angeles on Saturday night, including 11 in the fourth quarter. He also held the Riptide to just four goals in the first half. Meanwhile, Westervelt had an outstanding MLL debut after scoring four goals with three assists en route to being named Bud Light MVP. The fourth overall pick in the Collegiate Draft, Westervelt helped the University of Maryland, Baltimore County reach the NCAA quarter-finals as a senior.
The television replay of the Outlaws vs. Riptide game from June 9 will air on ESPN2 tomorrow (Tuesday, June 12) at 2pm mountain time.
The Outlaws face the Rochester Rattlers at INVESCO Field for the first time this Saturday (June 16, 2007) at 7pm.
