June 11, 2007 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
New York Lizards News Release
Uniondale, NY (June 7, 2007) - The Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse return home on June 16th after a two game road trip to take on the defending champion Philadelphia Barrage at 1 pm on a day that will be filled with lacrosse action for all ages.
The Lizards game will be the centerpiece of the 19th Annual Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation (LIMLF) Jamboree, which is an all day tournament with teams participating from all over New York Metropolitan area. Each child participating in the Jamboree will receive a ticket to the Lizards game that day, Jamboree T-Shirt and a Warrior gift pack.
The Lizards are also proud to announce that they will be teaming up with CATZ (Competitive Athlete Training Zone) of Long Island to host the first ever Long Island Lacrosse Combine. The Lizards and the CATZ professionals will join forces and extend their knowledge of fitness and lacrosse to the athletic community. The athletes will have the opportunity to be certified by the CATZ team in four main areas: vertical jump, 40 yard dash, t-drill shuttle and shot speed. CATZ will time and witness the fitness results, which will then be certified. The certification can then be used for college recruitment and overall athletic improvement. For a total cost of only $25 dollars, the participants will get their certification and receive a complementary ticket to the Long Island Lizard game against the Philadelphia Barrage at 1:00pm. The certifications will be mailed to all the athletes after the completion of the combine. The event begins at 10:00am and all registration can be done at www.longislandlizards.com/fanzone/contest.com.
"A combine for lacrosse on Long Island has never been done before," said Lizards President Dave Kotowski. "We have such a hotbed of talent right here on Long Island and this will give every young player the chance to get certified times and scores to send to coaches all over the country."
As a special addition to an already exciting day former Duke Lacrosse Coach and current Bryant College Coach Mike Pressler will be signing his new book, which he co-authored with acclaimed writer Don Yaeger, "It's Not About The Truth: The Untold Story of the Duke Lacrosse Rape Case and the Lives it Shattered". Coach Pressler will be selling and signing copies of the book in the Lizards Fan Zone from 11 am to 2 pm.
Finally, following the Lizards game with a face off time of 4 pm will be the Long Island Empire State Boy's Lacrosse "Final 50" game. This is the final tryout before the Long Island Empire State team is selected and will include the top 50 underclassman on Long Island. Sixty college coaches have already committed to attending this game, as some of the top recruits in the country will be playing.
Game time is 1:00 pm. The game can be seen LIVE on FSNY (Channel 72 on Long Island Cablevision) with replays throughout the week.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at www.longislandlizards.com or by phone at 1-866-LIZARD-1.
