Tides bury Bulls

DURHAM, NC-The Norfolk Tides belted five home runs in a 17-2 victory over the Durham Bulls on Friday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The fifteen run margin of victory for the Tides was the largest by any team against the Bulls this season.

Brian Baker (6-6) started the game for the Bulls going four and one-third innings and allowing eight hits and seven runs including two home runs. The other three home runs for the Tides came off of Bulls catcher Craig Albernaz who took the mound in the ninth inning and surrendered five hits and eight runs, four of which were earned. Nick Green drove in a season high seven runs for the Tides and now has 43 RBI on the season. Josh Bell also connected on a home run for the Tides. The homer was his team leading 15 of the season.

The Bulls got their runs in the eighth inning when Daniel Mayora and Brandon Guyer led off with back-to-back singles. Dan Johnson then hit a double into the gap off of Tides reliever Clay Rapada to cut the deficit to 9-2. Leslie Anderson and Felipe Lopez each had multi-hit games for the Bulls. Cole McCurry (1-0) picked up the win for the Tides working three innings and allowing just one hit while walking two.

Durham will travel to Norfolk for two more games against the Tides before the All-Star Break. They will be back in action on Saturday July 9 at 7:15 p.m. The Bulls will send Dirk Hayhurst (4-2) to the mound against the Tides Steve Johnson (0-3). The game can be heard on 620 the Buzz.
