
Ticats Sign Three Draft Picks

Hamilton, Ontario â The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has come to terms with three of their selections from the 2005 Canadian College Draft. Offensive lineman Fabio Filice, receiver Iain Fleming, and defensive lineman Andrew Paopao have agreed to two-year (plus an option) contracts and will attend training camp in Hamilton this weekend. The Ticats also signed Acadia standout defensive back Eric Nielson to a two-year (plus an option) pact.
Filice, the Ticats second round (15th overall) selection in the 2005 draft, played five seasons at McMaster and was named a four time OUA All-Star (first team - 2002, 2003, 2004, second team - 2001), as well as a two time CIS All-Canadian (first team â 2004, second team â 2003).
Fleming, a 6-3, 195-pound slotback, was selected by the Ticats in the fifth round (41st overall). The Toronto native was a CIS All-Canadian selection in 2004 and a two-time OUA All-Star (2003, 2004).
Paopao, a 6-2, 245-pound defensive lineman, was nabbed by the Ticats with their sixth round (50th overall) pick. Andrew is the son of Ottawa Renegades head coach and general manager Joe Paopao.
Nielson, a 6-0, 180-pound defensive back joins the Ticats after playing the past four seasons with the Acadia University Axemen. Nielson was a two-time first team All-Canadian selection and captured both the AUS Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Year in 2004.
The Ticats kick off their 2005 training camp on May 29th at McMaster University.
