HAMILTON - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats made five additions to their defence today, signing import linebackers Nate Bussey and Erik Harris as well as import defensive backs John Bowie, Trenton Hughes and Arthur Hobbs.
Bussey, a seventh round draft pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2011, spent the final week of the 2012 season on the Ticats practice roster following stints with the Saints, the Jacksonville Jaguars and UFL's Omaha Nighthawks. He made 156 tackles in four seasons at Illinois.
Harris played four years at California University of Pennsylvania, racking up 231 defensive tackles, 15 special teams tackles, eight quarterback sacks, nine interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one blocked kick. He was named first-team All-PSAC in 2010 and second-team in 2011.
Bowie gained experience with the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals after being selected in the fourth round (110th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. He previously spent three weeks on the Tiger-Cats practice roster in 2012.
Hughes made 77 defensive tackles and one interception over the course of four years at Maryland. He took part in training camp with the Miami Dolphins last season.
Hobbs joins the Ticats after attending training camp with the San Diego Chargers and spending time on Chargers practice roster in 2012. He finished his collegiate career at Nebraska-Kearney, where he made 54 tackles and three interceptions in his senior season.
