ThunderBolts Win Series with Lopsided Win

SAUGET, Ill.-The Windy City Thunderbolts scored seven times in the third inning Sunday night to take a 7-1 lead, then cruised to a 15-5 win over the Gateway Grizzlies in the finale of a three-game series at GCS Ballpark. 5,554 were on hand to see the Grizzlies drop to 21-22.

Windy City (22-20) won the final two games in the three-game series.

The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead Sunday when Landon Hernandez walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning. Hernandez was 1 for 1 with three walks and the RBI.

Windy City scored twice more in the fourth inning, five times in the sixth inning and once more in the eighth to go up 15-1. Ryan Basham hit a pair of two-run home runs for the Thunderbolts.

John Flanagan (4-2) took the loss. He allowed nine runs, three earned, on nine hits in 2.2 innings. He walked two and struck out one. It was his shortest outing of the year.

The Grizzlies scored four times in the eighth inning to make it 15-5. Jason Patton led off the frame with a home run. Charlie Lisk and Logan Parker reached ahead of Jareck West, who connected for his 10th home run of the year, a three-run shot, for the final margin.

West was 1 for 4 with the three RBIs. Patton was 1 for 5. Lisk finished the night 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored.

Monday is a league-wide off-day for the Frontier League. The Grizzlies host the Kalamazoo Kings in the first of a three-game series Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
