ThunderBolts holding tryouts Saturday afternoon

Crestwood, IL - The Windy City ThunderBolts professional baseball team, 2007 and 2008 Frontier League Champions, will be holding an open tryout in preparation for the 2009 season on Saturday, February 7. The tryout will take place at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, with check-in beginning at 11:00 am and the workouts starting at noon.
There will be a $40 fee for those who pre-register for the tryouts ($50 for walk-up registration) to cover the costs associated with the workouts. In the event of inclement weather, an indoor facility will be used, and those who have pre-registered will be contacted with this information.
Along with the Windy City ThunderBolts, scouts with at least three Major League Baseball teams and one other independent team have indicated their plans to attend this workout.
The tryouts are open to anybody who does not have college eligibility remaining. The Frontier League requires that players active during the 2009 season must have been born on or after January 1, 1982, however other teams in attendance may sign players who have passed the Frontier League's age limit.
The workouts will consist of timed a 60-yard dash, and infield and outfield session, and live batting practice for position players. Pitchers will be able to participate in a bullpen session and throw live batting practice to hitters.
"Over the past seven years, 20 players my teams have discovered through our open tryouts have appeared in regular season games," commented ThunderBolts' general manager Steve Tahsler. "We view these workouts as an integral part of our scouting each off-season, and they provide an excellent opportunity for players from smaller schools or coming off injuries to showcase their talents for professional baseball personnel."
The Windy City ThunderBolts open the 2009 season on Thursday, May 21 at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood.
