Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - The ThunderBolts erased a deficit in the sixth inning, but were unable to score again, as the Joliet Slammers completed the sweep at Standard Bank Stadium Sunday evening after a 4-2 11-inning victory.
Windy City (19-34) got on the board first in the fifth when Blair Beck led off with a double. After reaching third base on a passed ball, Beck scored on a Larry Balkwill sacrifice fly to give the Bolts a 1-0 advantage.
Connor Bach took a no-hitter into the sixth, but allowed a one-out blooper to fall. Bach was eventually replaced by Joel Toribio, who allowed back-to-back RBI base hits to give Joliet (30-24) a 2-1 lead.
The ThunderBolts answered right away to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. Omar Obregon singled and later moved to second on a throwing error. That set up Beck to drive him in on a sharp grounder to left field.
The score would remain tied at two until the 11th. With the international tiebreaking rule put into effect, London Lindley began the frame at second base. Following a sacrifice bunt, Paddy Ledet, in his first appearance out of the bullpen this season, walked two straight Slammers to load the bases.
Trenton Hill lined a ball sharply to short that scored a run, as Obregon was only able to record a force out at second base. RJ Thompson followed with an RBI bunt single to pull Joliet ahead 4-2.
The ThunderBolts went down in order in the bottom of the 11thto drop their eighth in a row against the Slammers.
Ledet (3-6) took the loss in one inning of relief, while Taylor Goshen (4-3) earned the victory. Bach allowed one hit, struck out nine and walked four in 5.1 innings of one-run ball.
Windy City will enjoy an off-day Monday before beginning their series against the Gateway Grizzlies on Tuesday. Braulio Torres-Perez will make his ThunderBolts debut on the mound.
It is $2 ticket Tuesday at Standard Bank Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and the broadcast can be heard on wcthunderbolts.com.
