Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - Patrick Ledet allowed only one run on four hits over a career-long seven innings as the Windy City ThunderBolts defeated the River City Rascals 5-2 at Standard Bank Stadium Friday night.
For the second straight night, the ThunderBolts (2-0) got the bats rolling in the first inning. With two outs and no one on, Riley Krane started a rally with a single. Larry Balkwill singled as well in front of Tyler Straub, who picked up his first hit of the year, a two-run triple. Straub scored on a Ransom LaLonde single to make it 3-0.
The Rascals (0-2) got on the board in the fourth inning. Conner Oliver singled and scored on a Gerrion Grim double. Ledet did not allow another baserunner, retiring the last ten batters he faced.
The Bolts opened the fifth inning with three straight singles to pad their lead. Tim Zier got it started and Balkwill knocked him in. Blair Beck walked in the sixth inning and scored on a Zier base hit to make the lead 5-1.
River City threatened in the eighth, loading the bases with no outs, but managed just one run, on a Mike Jurgella groundout, and Devin Raftery bounced back from a blown save Thursday with a perfect ninth inning to wrap up the 5-2 ThunderBolts' win.
Ledet (1-0) struck out three in his second career victory and Dan Ludwig (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits over five innings. Raftery earned his first save.
The ThunderBolts look for a three-game sweep on Saturday evening at 6:05. Will Landsheft and Scott Grist will be making their first starts of the year for Windy City and River City, respectively. The Bolts will be celebrating Irish Night at the park featuring a pregame concert by Three Men in Kilts and a postgame fireworks show. The broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com.
