New Mexico Thunderbirds News Release

Los Angeles, CA - Dar Tucker successfully defended his NBA Development League All Star Slam Dunk Contest title and Shane Edwards was a member of the Haier Shooting Stars winning team as the New Mexico Thunderbirds won both events they participated in at NBA Development League Dream Factory Friday Night presented by Haier.

Tucker won the 2011 NBA Development League Slam Dunk Contest by doing a windmill dunk on an alley-oop pass over teammate Shane Edwards. Last year in the finals he won the competition by dunking over seven-foot center, Brian Butch.

Edwards, a first year competitor in NBA Development League Dream Factory Friday Night, won the Haier Shooting Stars competition along with Jeremy Wise of the Bakersfield Jam and Orien Greene of the Utah Flash. Edwards made shots one and four for his team on his first attempt in both the first round and finals. He also hit the half-court shot in the first round on a ball that ricocheted off the top of the backboard and shot clock before going in.

Edwards will also compete in the fifth-annual NBA D-League All-Star Game presented by SonoSite tomorrow at 3 p.m. MT, at Center Court at NBA Jam Session presented by adidas.

As part of the NBA Cares Caravan, NBA Development League All-Star participants will join the entire NBA family, including NBA All-Stars and NBA/WNBA players, Legends, NBA executives, partners and guests as NBA Cares host more than 30 events during the week of NBA All-Star in the greater Los Angeles area.

The Thunderbirds will be off until Feb. 24 when they visit the Austin Toros at 6:30 p.m. The T-Birds will return home for March Giveaway Madness beginning on March 2 for Defined Fitness Night with a J.R. Giddens basketball card and T-Bird's Magnet giveaway.

Thunderbirds' season tickets are currently on sale, with full and partial season packages available. Single game tickets are also now available online at www.nmtbirds.com or by calling 505-265-3865. The Thunderbirds also offer family four packs: 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 nachos, and 4 drinks for $44.
