New Mexico Thunderbirds News Release

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., March 17th, 2009 - In spite of a five point deficit heading into the fourth quarter, the Thunderbirds rallied to defeat the Tulsa 66ers 101-93, Tuesday night at Tingley Coliseum.

With ten minutes left to play, T-birds guard Will Conroy nailed back to back threes putting Albuquerque up by three. Conroy finished with 21 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Thunderbirds' Head Coach John Coffino said, "Will (Conroy) had a slow first half but came back in the second; that's what leaders do." Aside from leading the team to their 13th home win, Conroy leads the NBA D-League in average points per game.

Leading the 66ers to their 31st loss this season was Herbert Hill, who tallied 26 points, 10 boards, five blocked shots and an assist. Tulsa's backcourt, comprised of Shaun Livingston and Gary Forbes, combined for 34 points, 13 rebound and nine assists.

Helping Conroy secure Albuquerque's 21st win this season was guard Antoine Agudio who chipped in 23 points, four assists and two steals. Agudio, a 6-3 guard out of Hofstra, has averaged 24.8 points per game in his last four outings, including a 30 point explosion against the division leading Colorado 14ers on March 14th.

Newly acquired Mouhamed Sene grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to help the T-birds overcome the 66ers for the fourth time this season. Sene, a 7-0 center out of Segal, has led the Thunderbirds in rebounds since joining the team on March 14th. "He hasn't shown us what he's capable of just yet," said Coffino, "he's an impact player with the ability to change the game and we'll need to come out big for us this weekend."

On March 20th the Thunderbirds, now 21-19, will host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 7pm at Tingley Coliseum. On Saturday, March 21st they host the Erie Bayhawks, also at 7pm. With the playoff schedule announced every D-League team is fighting for a spot and Albuquerque's no exception.
