Colorado 14ers News Release
DENVER - March 17, 2009 - The Colorado 14ers scored the first 11 points in overtime en route to a 118-109 victory over the Idaho Stampede at the Broomfield Event Center Tuesday night. Colorado also held Idaho without a field goal in the extra period to improve to 26-12 on the season. Idaho falls to 26-16 with the loss.
After going scoreless for the first three quarters Dominique Coleman's five points in the final 1:41 of regulation led the 14ers comeback, and Eddie Gill knocked down a free throw to tie the game at 102 with 1:00 to play. Neither team would score in the final minute of regulation before Colorado took control in overtime. Josh Davis hit a free throw and back-to-back three pointers in the first 40 seconds of the extra period, and the 14ers never trailed again.
"Our guys gutted it out. To keep after it the way we did showed great resiliency," said 14ers head coach Bob MacKinnon. "We've said it all year. When we decide to guard and rebound we're pretty good."
Davis led six Colorado players in double figures with 22 points. Sonny Weems added 20 off the bench, while Joe Dabbert posted 19 with eight rebounds in 18 minutes of action. Eddie Gill also put up his twelfth double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 assists to go along with six rebounds in the win.
Idaho was led by Lance Allred's 18 points and 12 rebounds. Jamaal Tatum and Mohammed Abukar also combined for 30 points off the bench in the Stampede loss.
The 14ers will turn around tomorrow night to host the Tulsa 66ers in Broomfield. Idaho returns home to face the Reno Bighorns on Thursday.
