Thunderbirds Fall Short to Stampede in Double OT

Albuquerque, N.M., March 25, 2007 - Ronell Taylor had 6 of the Idaho Stampede's 11 points in the second overtime of Sunday's game against the Albuquerque Thunderbirds. The Stampede survived two late rallies by Albuquerque late in the fourth and in the first overtime to get the victory 108 - 106. Dijon Thompson led all scorers in the loss for Albuquerque with 28 points.

The Stampede had six players score in double digits including all five starters. Lance Allred led the Stampede with 24 points and a game high 16 rebounds. Randy Livingston pitched in another 12 points to go along with 15 assists.

Albuquerque had four players record double-doubles. Brandon Robinson who had 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, and Julius Hodge had 10 assists to go along with 19 points, all after half time.

The Thunderbirds outscored Idaho 24 to 6 in the paint for the first half. Idaho was able to stay in the game with lights-out three point shooting, pouring in 6 of 8 from behind the arch. After the first two quarters of play the Thunderbirds and Stampede headed into the break deadlocked at 52.

Allred had eight points in the third quarter on 4 of 5 shooting to put Idaho out in front early. Albuquerque clawed back with tough defense, aided by three blocked shots in the quarter, helping them to a 66-65 lead after three.

Albuquerque rallied late in the forth quarter for the second night in a row. Julius Hodge drove the lane with less than thirty seconds drawing the foul and making the basket. Hodge proceeded to make the free throw tying the game at 92 and sending it to overtime.

The Stampede continue their current road trip next weekend in Los Angeles against the D-Fenders on Friday, March 30th followed by Bakersfield on Sunday, April 1st.

The Thunderbirds hit the road for their next three games starting at Dakota on Tuesday, March 27th at 7:00pm. Albuquerque returns home for their final home game on Friday, April 6th to take on the Bakersfield Jam; game time is set for 7:00pm and will be NBA night sponsored by Adidas. The Thunderbirds will wear Phoenix Suns uniforms for this special game and the jerseys will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. The first 1,000 fans will receive a team poster and players will be available for autographs following the game.

Expansion teams in Orem, Utah, the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and Des Moines, Iowa have also been announced for the 2007-08 season.
