
Thunderbirds Disarm the Arsenal

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Feb 28, 2009 - The Thunderbirds, now 17-12, defeated the Anaheim Arsenal, Saturday night at Tingley Coliseum.
With 4:41 left in the second, newly acquired forward/center Brad Stricker nailed a pair of free throws to break the tie and put the T-birds up, 36-34. After obtaining the lead, Albuquerque would never look back.
Thunderbirds' forward David Noel led both teams in scoring with a game-high of 27 points. The former Tar Heel grabbed four boards and tallied two assists in his 43 minutes of play.
Making his debut alongside Stricker was guard James Wright. Wright, who played 10 minutes off the bench, dished out three assists. In addition to the new arrivals, T-birds' forward Jasper Johnson helped Albuquerque earn its seventeenth win of the season. Johnson, who in his last two outings has averaged 34 points, added 26 points and grabbed 11 boards.
Johnson was named NBA D-League Performer of the Week for games played during the week of Feb. 16, 2009. Johnson is the second Thunderbird to earn the honor this season, joining teammate Will Conroy.
On March 1st the Thunderbirds will host the Bakersfield Jam, now 20-15. The Jam come into Tingley after a 96-83 loss to the Los Angeles D-Fenders but will look to rebound against the T-birds, 3pm on Sunday.
