March 1st, Reno- The Reno Bighorns were able to hold a late push from the L.A. D-Fenders in a high scoring game, Bighorns 125-115.
Dave Noel was the leading scorer for the Bighorns in the first half with 12. At two minutes left in the half, Noel shot two free throws, scoring both, from a foul with Forehan-Kelly. He tied the score 53-53 and within 30 seconds left in the 2nd, Noel fouled a player and fell to the floor with a torn Achilles tendon. He remained out the remainder of the game. End of the first half, Bighorns 91- D-Fenders 85.
Both teams came out from the half on target, as the Bighorns and D-Fenders both shot over fifty percent from the field. The Bighorns got out to a 17 point lead midway near the end of the game, but a late push by the D-Fenders closed the gap to five points with less than a minute left. The Bighorns were able to hold off L.A. with free throws down the stretch.
L.A. Guard, Brandon Heath led all scorers with 26 points. The Bighorns were led by Guard, Russell Robinson with 25 points. Patrick Ewing Jr. also added 19 points and 14 rebounds as part of a balanced Bighorns attack that featured seven players in double digits.
The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA's official minor league and features 16 teams with direct affiliations to NBA teams for the 2008-09 season. An expansion team will begin play in Portland, Maine for the 2009-10 season.
