Thunderbird Jasper Johnson To Play at 2009 NBA Summer League

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., July 7, 2009 - Jasper Johnson, who last year was a member of the Albuquerque Thunderbirds, has been named to the NBA Development League Select team. The team, comprised of 10 players, will play a five-game schedule during 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA Sportsat the Cox Pavilion and Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada - Las Vegas.
"We're all very proud of Jasper. He was an integral part of our success last year, and no one deserves this more than he does," said Thunderbirds head coach John Coffino. "I'm looking forward to watching him play in Las Vegas next week."
Johnson averaged 17.2 points and 8.2 rebounds in 49 games with the Los Angeles D-Fenders and Albuquerque Thunderbirds during the 2008-09 season.
Johnson is joined on the team by players from six other NBA D-League teams, including Iowa's Othyus Jeffers and Curtis Stinson; Fort Wayne's Coleman Collins and Walker Russell, Jr.; Rio Grande Valley's Marcus Hubbard and Kurt Looby; Bakersfield's Trey Johnson, Tulsa's Gary Forbes and Dakota's Will Frisby.
Scott Roth, who led the Bakersfield Jam to the team's first postseason appearance on the back of a 26-24 overall record, was named head coach of the Select team. Joining him on the bench in Las Vegas is Dale Osbourne, who completed his second season as assistant coach of the Utah Flash and Jason Glover, who just completed his first season as the assistant coach of the Reno Bighorns. Michael Douglas of the Bighorns will serve as the team's athletic trainer.
The NBA D-League Select team begins their summer schedule when they face-off against the Minnesota Timberwolves at 4 p.m. ET at the Cox Pavilion.
The 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA Sports is comprised of 21 NBA teams and the NBA D-League Select squad, and features rookies, second-year players and select free agents.
