NORTH OF THE BORDER - Wichita took four out of a possible six points during its three-game road trip to Brampton, Ontario this past week. The Thunder sits five points back of the Beast and the Oilers and just three points back of Arizona for the final playoff spot. The Thunder will decide its playoff fate down the stretch, playing 11 of the last 18 games against Arizona and Tulsa.
WHO NEEDS OT - Since losing its first shootout of the season back in October, Wichita has won its last five that has ended in penalty shots. Oddly, each of those wins has come away from home. The Thunder is 5-1 in shootout situations. David Brown won his league-best fourth shootout of the season on Friday in Brampton and improved his overall record to 15-11-0. Brown has stopped 18 of 21 shooters in the extra session this season, good for a save percentage of .857.
MULTI-TASKING - Matt Robinson recorded his 10th multi-point game of the season as well as his 6th multi-goal game of the year. His second goal on Monday afternoon gives him four game-winners on the season, tying him in 10th with eight others in the CHL in that category.
MAD DOG - Jon Madden has added some offense into his arsenal this season. The second-year defenseman out of Brighton, Michigan has surpassed his numbers from his rookie campaign through 36 games. He scored the first goal on Monday with a bomb from the blue line and his fourth of the season. He has six assists to go along with that, putting him past last year's totals (1g, 7a).
BLUE LINE IMPACT - Wichita has three of the top six scoring defensemen in the league. Martens sits in first place with 38 points (8g, 30a), adding two assists over the weekend. Dudas is in fourth with 34 points (12g, 21a). Mike Wilson is in sixth place with 31 points (9g, 22a).
HOME STAND - Wichita returns to the ICT after a three-game road swing and will have its longest home-stand left on its schedule to finish the season. The Thunder play a pair of games at INTRUST Bank Arena this weekend, host Arizona on Tuesday night and finish against Tulsa on Friday, February 28th. After a brief one-game trip up to Missouri on March 1st, the Thunder return back on home on Sunday, March 2nd to face Arizona.
