Thunder Renews Rivalry with Colorado this Weekend
October 29, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (October 29th) - Wichita and Colorado haven't played each other in four seasons. Beginning tomorrow, that all changes as the Eagles will head to the Air Capital for a weekend set against the Thunder starting at 7:05 p.m.
The two teams had some heated battles back in 2003, meeting in the playoffs in consecutive seasons. The Thunder upset Colorado during the 2004 Central Hockey League Playoffs, winning their quarterfinal series three-games-to-one. Colorado came in as the number one seed while the Thunder were in the number four slot. In the 2004 playoffs, Wichita fell to the Eagles in six games.
Head Coach Kevin McClelland is no stranger to Colorado, having coached in Loveland for two seasons. From 2008-10, McClelland went 87-30-11 in 128 games as the bench boss for the Eagles. He was hired by Wichita in 2010-11 after leaving Colorado.
Overall, Wichita is 20-29-4 against Colorado and 14-11-2 at home in the series. The Thunder went 3-0-0 at home in 2010-11 before the Eagles went to the ECHL. The two teams will face each other a total of six times with three in each city.
Friday is Pink at the Rink, presented by RA Ruud and Son and Machinist Union Local Lodge 839. Saturday afternoon is the Halloween Extravaganza. Starting 1:05 p.m., bring the kids out for a costume contest and trick-or-treating before the game.
