Rapid City Rush News Release
(WINDSOR, CO) - Jacob DeSerres earned his first shutout as a pro and received help on goals from Darryl Bootland, Giffen Nyren, Collin Bowman, and Jesse Mychan as the Colorado Eagles defeated the Rapid City Rush at the Budweiser Events Center on Wednesday night as the Eagles celebrated Military Appreciation Night.
The Eagles, honoring our nation's military, came out with emotion, and cashed in within the first minute of regulation. With 53 seconds gone by in the game, Colorado forward Darryl Bootland sent a cross-slot pass from Eagles Captain Trent Daavettila behind Rush netminder Danny Battochio to put the home side up 1-0. After sustained pressure in the Rush attacking zone, the Eagles stormed into the Rush third of the ice and doubled their advantage. With 9:47 remaining in the first, the Eagles' Giffen Nyren deflected a shot from teammate Teigan Zahn, who was deep in the Rush zone playing off of his blueline, past Battochio to bring the Eagles lead to 2-0.
Eagles defenseman Collin Bowman added a power play goal just shy of the midway point of the second. With 7:19 gone by in the middle act, the Eagles cashed in on their first power play of the night as the puck was cycled to the blueline by Kyle Ostrow and Adrian Veideman, and Bowman sent a shot by Battochio to triple the Eagles lead to 3-0. Rounding out scoring was Eagles forward Jesse Mychan, who recorded his third goal in as many games against the Rush on a shot from the far wall of the Rush zone that beat Battochio with 15:10 left in the game, bringing the Eagles to what would be a 4-0 win.
Danny Battochio received the loss, his first of the season, stopping 19 of 23 shots faced (3-1-0). The Rush saw a streak of 36 games, including the postseason, in which they have not suffered a shutout loss come to an end.
The Boys from the Black Hills are back in action on Friday, October 30th, as they play host to their newest West Division rivals, the Alaska Aces, for the first time in franchise history. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m. MST back home at Premier Home Mortgage Ice in Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
