Trenton Thunder News Release

(TRENTON, NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced on Wednesday that Patience Purdy has been named the Director of the team's Community Relations Department.

The Thunder have been heavily involved in the greater Trenton community since the team's inception in 1994. Under the umbrella of the Grand Slam We Care Foundation, the team has given over $3.7 million worth of goods, services and monetary donations back to the community over its 16 years in Trenton.

As an organization, the Thunder have chosen to re-emphasize the importance of supporting the people and non-profit organizations of the region by formalizing those outreach opportunities into a specific Community Relations Department. The new department will aim to re-focus the work that has already been done and look to form new partnerships with charities, non-profits and professional organizations.

As Director, Patience Purdy will oversee the team's involvement in local Chambers of Commerce, mascot and player appearances, non-profit donations, the team's educational programs in area schools, and will be the main point of contact for non-profits looking to form or enhance a partnership with the Thunder.

"Patience brings an enthusiastic attitude, fresh outlook, and a lot of new ideas to this position," said Thunder General Manager Will Smith. "We are very happy we were able to hire from within to fill this position and Patience was the perfect candidate."

Purdy has been with the Thunder since the 2004 season and has been actively involved in coordinating the team's Chamber of Commerce involvement since her start. As Assistant Director of Ticket Sales, Patience has been active within the community by building relationships with Thunder partners and fans. Currently, she serves on the Trenton UEZ (Urban Enterprise Zone) Advisory Board and the Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce Expo Committee. She also coordinates the Thunder and North Star Vet's Dog of the Day adoption program. Patience can be reached at patience@trentonthunder.com or 609-394-3300 ext 104.

The 2010 Trenton Thunder schedule will be released soon. Full & Half Season Tickets as well as Group Outings are available now by calling 609-394-3300. More information can be found online at trentonthunder.com.
