
Thunder Pound Out Hits In 10-2 Win Over Reading

(Trenton, NJ)- Jackson Melian had a home run and five RBI, while Chien-ming Wang tossed seven shutout innings with 10 strikeouts, as the Thunder beat Reading, 10-2, on Sunday afternoon. The game was delayed 1 hour 9 minutes at the outset due to rain.
Trenton (8-5) jumped on Reading starter Mike Spiegel for three runs in the 1st Inning and seven more in the 2nd Inning. LF Mitch Jones had an RBI double for the first run of the day. Melian followed with a two-run triple for a 3-0 lead. In the second, four consecutive RBI hits by Kevin Reese (triple), Robinson Cano (double), Dioner Navarro (single) and Aaron Rifkin (double) made it a 7-0 game. Two batters later, Melian slammed a three-run homer to run the lead to 10-0.
Spiegel (0-3) was charged with 10 runs (nine earned) in 1 1/3 innings. He retired the first two batters of the game, but then saw 13 of the next 15 hitters reach base.
Thunder starter Chien-ming Wang worked seven shutout innings for the victory. Wang (1-1) allowed three hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts. He retired the final 14 batters faced in the game.
Trenton heads for Binghamton, NY on Monday to starts a three-game series with the Mets. Matt Smith (1-1) goes for the Thunder against the Mets Jose Diaz (1-0).
