Thunder Open Camp Monday

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder will training camp on their 11th CHL season this Monday at 10:00 a.m.

Training camp will be held at Ice Sports Wichita on both Monday and Tuesday, then move to the Kansas Coliseum on Wednesday and Thursday. All practices are open to the public and will run until 11:30 a.m.

Practice will shift back to Ice Sports Wichita on Friday, then the Thunder will host the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in an exhibition game at the Kansas Coliseum on Saturday, October 12th at 7:30 p.m. All tickets for that game are $10 for general admission and are on sale now.

The Thunder will have 22 players in camp, including returning veterans Travis Clayton, and Jason Duda, who finished fifth in the CHL in scoring last season. Other returnees include forwards Jeff Leiter and Jerod Bina, defensemen Paul Johnson and Vladimir Hartinger, and goaltender Stephen Wagner.

Key additions this season include forwards Peter MacKellar, Todd Johnson and Jeff Petruic. Petruic led all of North America in scoring last season in both goals (57) and points (114). Defensively, the Thunder are also much improved thanks to the signings of Bob Rapoza, Chad Nelson and Pat Stachniak.

The Thunder will open their 11th CHL season with a pair of home games on Friday October 18th versus the Fort Worth Brahmas and Saturday October 19th versus the Amarillo Gorillas. The first 2000 fans in attendance on Friday will get a Thunder Rally Towel, courtesy of The WB 33, Pizza Hut and the Wichita Eagle, while all fans on Saturday will receive a 2002-03 Thunder Magnetic Schedule, courtesy of Pizza Hut and KWCH TV-12. Both games face-off at 7:30 p.m.

Adult Ticket prices this season are $14 in the lower level and $10 in the upper level. However, tickets for all children 12 and under have been lowered to just $9 in the lower level and $5 in the upper level. Tickets can be purchased at the Thunder office, located in Ice Sports Wichita and at all Select-A-Seat outlets.

The Thunder are also offering a special group price for opening weekend. A group of 20 tickets for the weekend, either Friday or Saturday, are just $10 for lower level seats or $7 in the upper level. All group leaders will also have the opportunity to win the jersey off the back of their favorite Thunder player at both games.
