Thunder leaves Idaho with 4-1 loss, Silverthorn stops 24 shots

BOISE, Idaho - If five games speak for themselves, the Stockton Thunder (13-37-11, 37 points) has seen enough of the Idaho Steelheads (37-20-7, 81 points) for the 2005-06 season. The Steelheads finished off a three-game home series sweep of the Thunder in a 4-1 Stockton setback before 5,203 at Qwest Arena on Saturday.

Idaho takes the five-game season series at a 5-0-0 clip, as Steelheads goalie Steve Silverthorn stopped 24 shots in net and held the Thunder scoreless into the third period.

The Thunder surrendered three first period goals, beginning with Marty Flichel's tap-in rebound for Idaho at the 8:20 mark after Stockton goalie Jeff Weber stopped D'Arcy McConvey's one-timer. Mike Adamek hiked the lead to 2-0 for Idaho at 12:48, slipping by the defense and netting a backhander from 10-feet out.

Paul Caponigri pushed Idaho's lead to 3-0 with 1:38 left, finishing an odd-man rush. Both teams battled through a scoreless second period, with Weber thwarting all 15 Idaho shots, including numerous scoring chances. Silverthorn had stopped all 15 shots faced for the entire game through two periods.

Jeff Lang helped the Thunder draw back into the game at a 3-1 deficit, slipping a 40-foot snapshot past Silverthorn at the third period's 3:09 mark, who was screened in the slot. McConvey put the game out of reach however with a power play goal for Idaho with 7:46 gone, cashing in a rebound from in close.

Weber's valiant effort in net produced 32 saves, while the Thunder avoided its first team offensive shutout in franchise history.
