Salmon Kings pick up forward from the Prairies

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings announced today the signing of University of Regina 2005/2006 leading scorer Josh Garbutt.

Garbutt, 21, began his career with the Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL) in 2001 and played a combined 157 games over three seasons, in which he posted 81 points (24 goals, 57 assists). The native of Medicine Hat, AB played 27 games with the Kamloops Blazers (WHL) in 2003/2004, and split the following season between the Prince George Cougars (WHL) and the Yorkton Terriers (SJHL).

Garbutt tallied 38 points (10 goals, 28 assists) in 40 games with Yorkton and helped capture a championship.

In his sole season with the University of Regina Cougars, the 5-foot-11, 208-lb Forward earned 29 points (9 goals, 20 assists) in 23 games, and placed eighth on the list of top scorers in CIS Canada West.

The native of Balgonie, SK joins the Salmon Kings in his professional debut.

Victoria hits the road to challenge the Phoenix Roadrunners, Long Beach Ice Dogs, Stockton Thunder, Fresno Falcons and Alaska Aces. They return to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for Fan Appreciation Weekend and a two game battle versus the Utah Grizzlies on April 7th and 8th.
