FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Zac Pearson's goal with 75 seconds remaining in overtime gave the Bloomington PrairieThunder a 4-3 victory over the Fort Wayne Komets before 5,584 people Wednesday night in International Hockey League action at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
The victory was the first for the PrairieThunder in five games this season at Fort Wayne and snapped a seven-game losing streak on the Komets' home ice, dating back to last season. It also broke a four-game overall losing skid to Fort Wayne this year.
Bloomington's record improved to 22-20-2-5 (51 points), while Fort Wayne dropped to improved to 29-15-1-2 (61 points) and 16-4-1-1 at home. The PrairieThunder returns to action Saturday at home with a 7:05 p.m. game against Port Huron.
The PrairieThunder owned a 2-0 lead after two periods, thanks to a pair of unassisted goals by Jon Booras and Nick Elligsen in the first period.
However, Fort Wayne scored three goals in a four-minute span in the third period to gain the lead. P.C. Drouin started the onslaught at the 15:22 mark on a power play with assists to Konstantin Shafranov and Colin Chaulk.
Leo Thomas followed two minutes later with assists by Frankie DeAngelis and Sean O'Connor. Shafranov followed with the third goal on a power play on assists from Drouin and Chaulk.
Pearson tied the game with 7:33 remaining on assists by Cole Ruwe and Matthew Spiller. He then brought the game to an end with 1:15 left in overtime on assists by Booras and Justin Sawyer.
