Quad City Mallards News Release

MUSKEGON, Mich. (February 17, 2010) - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, came from behind three times in regulation- on the final occasion when Juris Stals evened the score with just over nine seconds left in regulation with his second goal of the night- only to fall to the host Muskegon Lumberjacks 4-3 in a shootout as Todd Robinson's was the only successful penalty shot Wednesday night. The Mallards did earn one point for the shootout loss.

The Mallards dramatically forced overtime and, as it would prove, the shootout when Stals buried Chris Lipsett's centering pass in the dying seconds of the third period.

The Lumberjacks took a 3-2 lead into the late going after Michel Beausoleil's superb individual effort put Muskegon on top at 12:21 of the third. Beausoleil's goal gave the Lumberjacks the lead for a second time in the third period- Robin Bouchard's tip in had snapped a 1-1 deadlock at 4:50 of the third, only for Joel Gasper's wrister from the right wing circle to knot it up for the Mallards at the 10:35 mark.

Billy Collins's close range backhander opened the scoring at 2:38 of the second period. The Lumberjacks' 1-0 lead last only until Stals evened the score from the slot at the 6:11 mark of the second.

The Mallards return home for a rematch with the Lumberjacks Friday night at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for that game will receive free pink Mallards caps.
