
Thunder defeat New Britain 8-4 behind Wright

(New Britain, CT)- Trenton LHP Chase Wright went a season-high 7.2 IP and the Thunder pounded out 11 hits in a 8-4 win over New Britain on Friday night at New Brtiain Stadium.
Trenton (9-7) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on an RBI single by LF Colin Curtis. New Britain (6-7) would tie the game in the 3rd inning on an RBI single by 3B Luke Hughes. The Thunder took the lead for good with three runs in the 4th inning. Curtis led off the inning with a walk against Rock Cat starting pitcher Oswaldo Sosa. He scored on an RBI triple by DH Matt Carson to make it 2-1. An RBI single by C PJ Pilittere and RBI groundout by 2B Kevin Russo increased the lead to 4-1.
With the score 5-2 in the 7th inning, the Thunder put the game away with three runs. SS Ramiro Pena doubled and CF Austin Jackson walked to start the inning. RF Jose Tabata plated Pena on a chopper down the third base line that went past New Britain 3B Luke Hughes. Hughes was charged with an error on the play. Later in the inning, 1B Cody Ehlers connected on a two-run two-out double to give the Thunder an 8-2 lead.
Wright (3-1) went a season-high 7.2 IP, a Thunder-high for a starting pitcher this season, and gave up 8 H and 4 ER. He struck out 5 and walked 1. Sosa (0-2) went 4 IP and gave up 5 H and 4 ER to take the loss. He struck out 2 and walked 3.
Trenton will look to make it three straight over the Rock Cats on Saturday night in the third game of the four game series. RHP George Kontos (0-2, 4.50) will be opposed by New Britain RHP Johan Pino (0-0, 0.00). Game time is set for 6:35 p.m.
