Thunder announces 11th man

November 17, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Charlotte Krunk News Release

Cabbarus County, NC. Tony Priscaro, GM of the ABA Carolina Thunder professional basketball team today announced that John Roberts, the host of NASCAR on Fox TV will be the team's 11th Man for the entire season. Roberts also hosts several other NASCAR shows on Fox Sports Net and the SPEED Channel and said, "This will be fun and I'm going to use both networks to cover my "professional basketball career. And, I'm going to try to get several of our drivers and other NASCAR celebs to participate also."

Priscaro added, "Have John as part of the Carolina Thunder team is very important to me. We have built our team and marketing plan around NASCAR and racing. Having this association is wonderful and we are deeply appreciative of John and NASCAR for the great support they have given the team."

The ABA 11th Man allows each ABA team to have a celebrity player on the bench who warms up with the team at pre-game and halftime, gets involved with fans for shooting contests - and is actually eligible to play in the game. You would be pleasantly surprised how talented many celebrities are.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
