Krunk loses home opener
November 28, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Charlotte Krunk News Release
Charlotte, NC. The ABA Baltimore Pearls, who were a last minute replacement for the Mississippi Stingers (Thanksgiving travel problems), swept into town just four hours before game time, and blew the Charlotte Krunk (1-1) out of Cricket Arena, spoiling their home debut. The final score was Baltimore 130, Charlotte 117. The previously winless Pearls (1-3) came off the tour bus firing. Led by an "Earl the Pearl" like performance from Greg Jones, who poured in 41 points, the Pearls scored 38 points in the first quarter.
The stunned hometown Krunk never recovered despite another stellar performance from guard Ricky "The Question" Clemonds (24 points) and newcomer Scooter Sherrill (22 points). David Egans co-starred for the Pearls with 37 and Tim Washington added 28 points. No Limit Larry, the morning personality from Power 98, served as the Krunk's 11th Man and actually scored five points in the fourth quarter.
The Charlotte team seemed taken by surprise by the attendance that featured an after the game performance by Hip-Hop artist superstar Mike Jones. Said owner and Krunk President Duane "Spyder" Hughes, "I heard a number of rumors about the possible cancellation of the game because of Mississippi's transportation problems and that Mike supposedly wasn't showing up. I don't know where those rumors got started and I don't know if it affected the crowd or not. I am more concerned about my team's flat performance. We were outplayed in every phase of the game. Give credit to Baltimore though. They came in here with no time to prepare and they beat our butts. I take my hat off to their organization for stepping up to the plate. And it shows how good these ABA teams are too because we have a good team." For more information, visit www.charlottekrunk.com or www.abalive.com or call 704 331 3938.
