Wichita Thunder News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today they have re-signed defenseman Daniel Tetrault and added defenseman Todd Paul.

A ninth-year pro out of La Broquerie, Manitoba, Tetrault (pronounced TAY-troh) looks to pick up where he left off last season, when he notched 11 points in his last 12 games. Despite missing 10 games due to injury, Tetrault still led all Thunder defensemen with 11 goals and 39 points in 54 regular season games.

A fourth round selection of the Montreal Canadiens in the 1997 NHL Draft (91st overall), Tetrault played five seasons of junior hockey with the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings. He turned pro in 2000 with the WPHL's Austin Ice Bats, notching 38 points.

The following season, the WPHL merged with the CHL, and Tetrault was named the CHL's Most Outstanding Defensemen, before earning a call-up to the American Hockey League's (AHL) Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He split the following season with Bridgeport and the ECHL's Trenton Titans. Tetrault returned to Austin in 2003, but was traded midway through the season to the New Mexico Scorpions, where he played for a year-and-a-half.

Tetrault joined the Thunder in 2005 and posted career highs that season with 15 goals, 42 assists, 57 points and 129 penalty minutes. His 12 power play goals also were a new Thunder record by a defenseman. A three-time WPHL/CHL All-Star, Tetrault has notched 75 goals and 252 points in 428 career pro games.

A fourth-year pro out of Aylmer, Quebec, Paul joins the Thunder after spending the majority of his pro career in the CHL. Paul turned pro in 2004 with the Southern Professional Hockey League's (SPHL) Knoxville Ice Bears, notching 17 points in 17 games before signing later that season with the CHL's Tulsa Oilers.

Paul picked up 21 points in 40 games with the Oilers during the 2005-06 season, but was traded to Corpus Christi on February 13th, in a four-player deal. Paul spent last season with Corpus Christi, notching 34 points, including a career-high 12 goals. He also chipped in eight points in 12 postseason games.

In 175 career pro games, Paul has amassed 26 goals and 97 points. The Thunder acquired Paul last month in a four-player deal that sent veteran Joe Blaznek from Wichita to Corpus Christi. The Thunder also received the rights to defensemen Tony Johnson and Jason Lepine from the Rayz. Tetrault and Paul join defenseman Tyler Hanchuck and forwards Kris Wiebe, Stan Yanchishyn, Bruce Richardson, Tyler Liebel and Travis Clayton as the first eight signings of the 2007-08 season.

The Thunder will host the Tulsa Oilers in an exhibition game on Tuesday, October 9th at the Wichita Ice Center, before opening their 16th CHL season at home on Saturday, October 20th.
