LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League officially announce the re-signing of second-year Center Chris Korchinski for the upcoming 2007-08 season.
Korchinski is back with the Bucks after a very successful rookie campaign, which included six regular-season game-winning goals, putting him in fifth-place for game-winning goals in a single-season in Bucks History. He didn't stop there. Korchinski added four game-winning playoff goals, including the 5-4 double-over-time game- winning power-play goal over Corpus Christi, in game one of the Bucks second round playoff series.
"Chris was a really pleasant surprise for us last season", said Bucks head coach/GM Terry Ruskowski, "he came a long way in a short period of time".
For the season Korchinski finished fourth on the team in scoring, with 24 goals, 29 assists, for 53 points, including his six game-winning goals (second on team). Korchinksi also performed well on special teams for Laredo, netting 10 power-play goals, with 13 power-play assists, and one short-handed goal in 58 regular-season games played.
"Chris is a quality player", Ruskowski said, "he scores big goals, plays hurt, and has great work ethic- I'm ecstatic that he's back."
Korchinksi carried over his regular-season success to the playoffs. He scored nine goals, with eight assists, for 17 points, including the four game-winning goals. On special teams he fired in one power-play goal, with three power-play assists, and one short-handed goal..
In 10 of his first 12 games with the Bucks last year, Korchinksi scored at least one point, in five of those games he scored at least two points. Korchinski scored at least one point in 35 of the 58 regular season games he played in last year. Out of the 20 playoff games he played in last season, Korchinski scored at least one point in 11 of them.
"I truly believe that one more good year here with us, and Chris will be ready for the AHL", Ruskowski commented.
The Bucks, who open training camp October 8th, have announced eight player signings this off-season, Korchinski, along with forwards Matt Summers and Corey Courchene, centers Andrew Dejardins, Brent MacSween, and Shawn Doucet, and defensemen Tyler Harder and David Mullins.
