
Thunder add goaltender

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder today announced their first signing for the 2004-05 season, goaltender Jamie Vandespyker.
Vandespyker (pronounced VAN-duh-spy-ker) enjoyed a successful rookie season with the Amarillo Gorillas, going 9-5-1 with a 2.70 goals against average in 21 games. He also finished seventh in the CHL this past season with an impressive .922 save percentage.
"We are very excited about the addition of Jamie", said Thunder head coach Derek Laxdal. "He had a promising rookie season and has a lot of potential to be one of the best goaltenders in the CHL."
A 6-1, 185-pound native of Campbellville, Ontario, Vandespyker enjoyed playing the Thunder last season, going 2-1-1 with a .912 save percentage. He was acquired by the Thunder last month, completing a deal from last summer that sent veteran Tom Gomes to the Gorillas. Prior to turning pro, Vandespyker played four seasons at the University of Findlay in Ohio.
In other news, the Wichita Thunder staff will Bowl for Kids Sake this Saturday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Seneca Bowl. All money raised during the event will be donated to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Sedgwick County.
