Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings set a new modern franchise record with their fifth-straight win on Monday, and they couldn't have done it in more thrilling fashion. Dylan Wruck scored the overtime winner with less than one second left on the clock to lead the Oil Kings past the Prince George Cougars 8-7.

Wruck, an 18-year-old Saskatoon native, sent his bench and the Rexall Place crowd into a frenzy when he scorched a wrist shot top shelf past Cougars goalie James Priestner with less than one second left in overtime to give the Oil Kings their fifth consecutive win. Edmonton had five previous four-game winning streaks since they re-entered the league in 2007-08, but their current five-game run is now the longest in the team's brief modern history.

The Oil Kings wouldn't have even been in a position to score the game-winner in overtime had they not mounted a remarkable third period comeback. They trailed 6-3 after 40 minutes but scored four straight goals in the first 7:29 of the third period to go up 7-6. The Cougars tied it up with 8:12 left in regulation, forcing overtime and leading to Wruck's dramatic winner.

Wruck wasn't the only player on the ice Monday who put forth a huge performance, as Travis Ewanyk scored a hat-trick and Michael St. Croix tallied one goal and three assists for the victorious Oil Kings. Josh Lazowski and Klarc Wilson also had two-point games. Defenceman Adrian Van de Mosselaer led the home side with a plus-four rating, while goalie Laurent Brossoit played the final 27:34 and made 12 saves for the win.

The Cougars were led by their star players, as Tampa Bay Lightning 2010 sixth overall NHL draft pick Brett Connolly scored his team's first two goals, 25 seconds apart. Charles Inglis, who had a free agent tryout with the Phoenix Coyotes last month, also tallied a pair of goals, and Edmonton Oilers 2010 draft pick Martin Marincin chipped in with a goal and a helper.

Monday's thrilling overtime finish was just the second time in the Oil Kings' modern history they've scored eight goals in one game, with the other outburst happening on Jan. 17, 2009 versus Chiliwack in a much less dramatic 8-1 drubbing.

The Oil Kings are now 5-2 on the season and their next game is on home ice at Rexall Place as well this coming Friday, Oct. 15, as they host the Medicine Hat Tigers (2-3) at 7 p.m. Friday's game is Retro Night at Rexall Place, as the Oil Kings will unveil and play in their third jersey, and there will be a retro theme at the rink. The Oil Kings will play three games in three nights next weekend, as they hit the road for games in Medicine Hat and Swift Current on Saturday and Sunday.

Individual game tickets for all Oil Kings home games are on sale now and start at just $15 in the ATB Financial Zone. Season seats start at less than $9 per game, with the addition of some new Mini-Packs and Flex Plans this season as well.Tickets are available at any Ticketmaster outlet, online at oilkings.ca, or by calling 780-414-GOAL (4625).
