FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Aaron Nola set a new career-high with eight strikeouts and gave the Clearwater Threshers another solid five innings, as Clearwater took the series finale, 9-3 over Fort Myers at Hammond Stadium.

Nola (2-3) surrendered only two hits and one run over his five frames to earn the victory. The Phillies' first-rounder issued one walk, and finished having thrown 73 pitches - 47 strikes.

Clearwater starting pitchers over the last three days have combined to permit just three runs over 18 innings while striking out 20.

For the second-straight day, the Clearwater offense surged early on.

Brandon Short kicked off the second inning with a double to left-center and, after Brian Pointer bunted for a hit, Harold Martinez singled to center to bring home the game's first run.

A strikeout and a single later, Chris Serritella delivered a base hit through the right side, scoring both Pointer and Martinez. Roman Quinn added an RBI double to extend his on-base streak to 15 and give the Threshers a 4-0 lead.

Clearwater (18-22) continued to pour it on in the third inning.

Short and Pointer again set the table, this time with a walk and single respectively. Martinez knocked home Short with a base hit to center, and one out later Gabriel Lino delivered a double to left to plate two more.

Lino was thrown out trying to extend the double to a triple, but Serritella stepped in and crushed a 2-0 pitch from Matt Tomshaw (9-3) to the deepest part of the park, just to the left of the 405 ft. marker in dead-center. Quinn then connected and launched a no-doubter to the berm beyond the leftfield wall for his fourth home run of the year, expanding the lead to 9-0.

The Miracle (24-15) plated their lone run off Nola in the fourth, after Byron Buxton tripled to start the inning. Dalton Hicks sent a sacrifice fly to left to get Fort Myers on the board.

They would threaten in the sixth inning, plating two runs off reliever Kevin Walter, but Ulises Joaquin came in with the bases loaded and struck out Stuart Turner to end the inning.

With the win, Clearwater took the four-game set from Fort Myers and salvaged a split of the season series at four game apiece.

The Threshers return home to Bright House Field on Friday to open up an eight-game home stand, beginning with the St. Lucie Mets. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m. on Prostate Cancer Awareness/Back to Football Night, with Threshers Live! the pre game show hitting the air at 6:15 p.m.
