Clearwater Threshers News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Fort Myers Miracle utilized an eight-run rally in the fourth inning and added a six-spot in the sixth to catapult themselves to a 14-0 win over the Clearwater Threshers on Monday night.
Clearwater (15-22) was limited to three hits against Miracle starter Brett Lee (8-2).
After the teams traded zeros in the first two innings, the Threshers notched the game's first hit when Gabriel Lino singled to center with one out. Lee though would induce an around-the-horn double play off the bat of Anthony Phillips to end the inning.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth.
Mike Gonzales broke the shutout with a high drive that carried out to right-center, which also extended his hit streak to 19 consecutive games. Dalton Hicks followed with a homer of his own, a liner down the right field line.
All told, the Miracle would plate eight runs in the inning on seven hits, two walks, and two errors.
Jeb Stefan (6-10) would be charged with six of those runs, allowing six hits and two walks in his 3.1 innings of work.
The Miracle added on in the sixth, after Jason Kanzler opened the inning with his first home run in a Fort Myers uniform. The next three men would reach as well against reliever Lino Martinez, and Gonzales' two-run double made it a 11-0 game.
Travis Harrison, Stuart Turner, and Aderling Mejia all added RBI's in the inning to expand the advantage to 14-0.
Clearwater will look to rebound on Tuesday, as Colin Kleven (3-8) toes the rubber opposed by lefty Steven Gruver (2-5) for Fort Myers. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on the Threshers' broadcast network.
