Clearwater Threshers News Release

Clearwater suffered its seventh consecutive loss on Friday, as the St. Lucie Mets completed the sweep by handing the Threshers a 6-2 loss.

The No. 2-through-4 hitters in the order accounted for six of the Threshers' seven hits, as KC Serna, Pete Lavin, and Chris Swauger each collected two.

Clearwater (9-36) found itself in the hole early, as the Mets sprung for two runs off Jeb Stefan in the first. A walk and a Brandon Nimmo double quickly put St. Lucie atop 1-0, and Nimmo would find the plate as well following a ground out and sacrifice fly.

T.J. Rivera's RBI double in the third made it 3-0 Mets. From there, Stefan (2-4) would settle in to retire the final eight men he faced in order.

The Threshers' right-hander was making his first start since April 28, after his last five outings had come in relief. Stefan worked five innings and allowed three runs on three hits and two walks, picking up three strikeouts.

Clearwater nearly erased the deficit in the sixth. Angelo Mora led off with a walk, and Serna doubled him home to make it a 3-1 ballgame.

Lavin then dropped down a bunt and beat it out for an infield single. Swauger grounded into a double play, but that allowed Serna to score from third and pull the Threshers to within a run.

Art Charles singled to left, and Logan Moore doubled to put runners on second and third. However, the rally ended abruptly as Moore was called for batting out of turn.

The Mets (29-19) pulled away in the eighth inning, plating three runs off reliever Kevin Walter.

Clearwater will face off against the Daytona Cubs for the first of two doubleheaders over the next two days. Game one on Saturday begins at 5:05 p.m.
