Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL - The Marauders arrived in Port Charlotte on Saturday afternoon earlier than the home team, which had just completed a 5 hour and 10 minute victory in Lakeland earlier that morning. In one of the few instances in which they didn't take batting practice before the game, the Stone Crabs looked surprisingly fresh to start the home-and-home series. Two pitches in, and Andrew Toles set the early tone with his first home run of the year on his 22nd birthday to help power his team to a 9-5 victory in front of 1,682 at Charlotte Sports Park.

Less than 24 hours after the offense fell asleep for a good portion of extra innings in Lakeland, Toles' solo shot off John Kuchno extending his hitting streak to 10 straight. Two batters later, Leonardo Reginatto's one out single came before Kuchno walked Patrick Leonard on four straight. Josh Sale's grounder back to the mound didn't help, but Maxx Tissenbaum knocked a two-run single into right center to make it 3-0.

Marauders left fielder Taylor Lewis also hit his first home run of the year to right, which got them on the board with one out in the third. Kuchno, after a perfect second inning that featured a pair of strikeouts, would not make it out of the inning after a leadoff walk to Reginatto. He soon stole second base, and with one out, Sale's rising liner to left center eluded a leaping Lewis for an RBI double and a 4-1 lead. Tissenbaum popped out to third for the second out, and manager Tom Prince removed Kuchno (3-4) following another RBI double by Hector Guevara that made it 5-1.

Reinaldo Lopez nearly ruined his night when he walked the bases loaded to open the fourth inning. With the tying run at the plate, the 23-year-old struck out catcher Jin-De Jhang and got Walker Gourley to ground into an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play. More run support arrived in the fifth when Leonard stroked a one out double to right center. A Sale single got him to third, and Tissenbaum delivered his third RBI with a sacrifice fly to left for a 6-1 lead. Guevara's single continued the inning for Coyle, who hit a towering home run over the wall in right to bring in three more runs and make it an eight run game.

With Lopez out after seven, the Marauders went to work against Ely Echarry and chipped away at the 9-1 deficit. Adam Frazier opened the frame with a grounder to short that hopped up on Reginatto for an error. A four pitch walk to Jeff Roy and a groundout to second by Eric Wood brought up dangerous designated hitter Josh Bell, who added a run with an RBU double. A sacrifice fly by Moroff made it 9-3, and Jhang and Gourley followed up with base hits that brought in two more runs to cut the deficit in half at 9-5. But that's as close as Bradenton would get despite putting two runners on against Ryan Garton in the ninth. Facing Bell, the righthander blew a 2-2 fastball by him to end the game in two and a half hours.
