CLEARWATER, Fl - The Clearwater Threshers dropped both games of a doubleheader, 4-3 and 8-0, to the Dunedin Blue Jays on Thursday night at BayCare Ballpark.

In the first contest, right-hander Starlyn Castillo made the start on the mound for Clearwater and turned in his best perormance of the season. The righty allowed no runs on two hits and struck out one in three innings of work.

The Threshers (9-18, 44-48) opened the scoring in the third inning on doubles by Nicolas Torres and Hao Yu Lee to make it 1-0.

After the Blue Jays (14-12, 42-50) evened the game 1-1 in the fourth off lefty reliever Matt Osterberg, the Threshers responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Clearwater loaded the bases on a single by Marcus Lee Sang, a walk to Andrick Nava and a bunt single by Leandro Pineda before Torres came through with a two-run single to give the Threshers a late 3-1 lead. Torres finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and reached base all three times at the plate.

With the Threshers leading 3-1 in the seventh, left-hander Gabriel Yanez entered to try and secure the save for the home team but allowed three runs on two homers to give the Blue Jays a 4-3 advantage. It was the second straight game in which the Clearwater bullpen blew a late save opportunity, as the Threshers went down in order in the home half and fell in the opener 4-3.

In the second contest, lefty Gabriel Cotto made his 15th start of the season on the mound for the Threshers. Cotto allowed three runs on three hits but walked four in four innings of work.

The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the fourth inning, pushing home three runs before loading the bases and exploding for five runs in the fifth, including a big three-run double by catcher Jose Ferrer to make it 8-0. All five runs were charged to right-handed reliever Konnor Ash.

The Threshers managed only seven hits in the game and couldn't muster up any major offensive threat, falling in shutout fashion and losing both contests of the twin bill. It was the third time this season the Threshers have been swept in a doubleheader.

Clearwater and Dunedin meet again in game four of the six-game series on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. Left-hander Jordi Martinez (3-5, 4.26 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Threshers, with coverage on the Threshers Broadcasting Network set to begin at 6:20 p.m.
