Marauders Trample Tigers, 13-5

BRADENTON, Fla. - An early home run built a quick advantage for the Marauders on Wednesday afternoon, and the team rolled to a 13-5 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers at LECOM Park.

The Marauders (17-9, 46-45) matched their third-highest run output of the season with the 13 runs. The team also drew a season-high ten walks in the game and went 6-for-17 with runners in scoring position.

Bradenton jumped on Flying Tigers (10-14, 42-48) starter Jackson Jobe for five runs in the first three innings, beginning with a line-drive, two-run homer to left field by Sergio Campana in the first inning. After Lakeland pushed within one run, 2-1, in the top of the third on a run-scoring double play grounder, the Marauders rallied for three runs in the bottom of the third off Jobe, as Jase Bowen and Maikol Escotto hit RBI-singles and Tsung-Che Cheng scored when Lakeland third baseman Izaac Pacheco was cited for obstruction in a rundown between third base and home, the second such miscue in two games by Pacheco.

Jobe finished with a career-high seven strikeouts but took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) in three and one-third innings.

Marauders starter Carlos Jimenez pitched two scoreless innings but left the game at the end of the second after a line drive by Lazaro Benitez struck Jimenez's upper body and deflected into an inning-ending groundout. Jimenez left the field under his own power.

While Sergio Umana limited the Flying Tigers to two runs over four innings of relief behind Jimenez, Marauders bats broke the game open in the middle innings. A five-run fifth, thanks to RBI-singles by Bowen, Juan Jerez, and Darwin Baez, as well as an Angel Basabe RBI-triple and a run-scoring wild pitch by Tyler Mattison, stretched Bradenton's lead to 10-1.

Lakeland bats persisted, as Manuel Sequera hit a solo homer in the sixth, Alvaro Gonzalez swatted a two-run homer in the seventh, and Jose de la Cruz scored on a Darvin Garcia balk in the eighth. But Bradenton had padded its lead in a three-run sixth, fueled by a Norkis Marcos two-run single and a fielding error by Gonzalez at third base. The end of the sixth brough the Marauders' peak lead of the day, 13-2.

Three Marauders recorded multi-hit performances, including a season-best three-hit game by Basabe. Every player in the starting lineup reached base safely, and seven of the nine recorded at least one hit.

The Flying Tigers committed three errors for the second straight game, leading to three unearned runs. The Marauders committed two errors of their own, but neither led to a run.

The series continues Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at LECOM Park. LHP Luis Peralta will start for the Marauders, while Lakeland will counter with RHP Marco Jimenez.
