
Threshers Shut Out To Snap Win Streak

CLEARWATER, FL - Avery Owusu-Asiedu's single in the fifth broke up a no-hit bid in the Clearwater Threshers (5-3) 10-0 loss to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (4-4) on Saturday night at BayCare Ballpark. The Threshers close out their opening homestand on Sunday afternoon.
Fort Myers' first two batters reached base in the top of the third, with an RBI double by Byron Chourio starting the scoring at 1-0. A sacrifice fly scored runs for Fort Myers in the fifth sixth and seventh innings, bringing their lead to 4-0. Poncho Ruiz added a second run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single to make the score 5-0.
Another sacrifice fly from the Mighty Mussels made it a 6-0 game in the top of the eighth. They added four more in the ninth and retired the Threshers side to seal a 10-0 loss for Clearwater.
Casey Steward allowd one run on two hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work. Brandon Beckel tossed 2.0 frames with two runs allowed on four hits and one strikeout. Jose Peña allowed two runs on one hit with two walks and a strikeout. Cristian Hernández walked two and struck out one in 1.2 innings with five runs allowed on four hits. Chase Hopewell retired the only batter he faced in the ninth.
